Local police caught Loc Van Duong on Sunday night when he was transporting the drug to Thanh Hoa's Quan Son district bordering Laos. Duong confessed that a Lao citizen had hired him to transport it to Vietnam at a wage of 400 million Vietnamese dong (nearly 8,700 U.S. dollars).
According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 4000 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 400 grams of heroin or 400 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty.
